Ruby and Zara are two chocolate labradors who have been bred specifically to work as ‘Pet Therapists’. They have been a part of the 4 year old program for several years now and have had a wonderfully positive impact on the program at Waverley Meadows. They work to help children who are finding separation difficult, those lacking in confidence, children with special needs, those with english as a second language, or even children who begin the kinder year with a fear of dogs.
Before Ruby and Zara begin their kinder year the staff and children chat about safety and hygiene issues and the general care and responsibility required for a pet.
They live full time with Mrs Knowles and are a huge part of the 4 year old program. While they are not a formal part of the 3 year old program, children in the 3 year old groups will also see them around on Monday’s and Tuesday’s.
