Our Kindergarten program, staff and the facilities have been rated as ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standards. This is the highest rating possible for a kindergarten and we are proud to have achieved such a high standard. Our staff are always looking for ways to improve and build on the already dynamic program and opportunities which are offered to the children and families of Waverley Meadows.
A comprehensive program is prepared by the staff, according to the children’s interest and needs at the time. Materials are set up for a ‘hands on’ experience to provide the opportunity for the children, to further develop their social, emotional, physical and cognitive abilities. Developmental Objectives will be set for the Group and for the individual child. Some objectives may be worked towards throughout the whole year; while others may be in place for a term or only a couple of weeks before they are achieved. Observations of the children at play and their interactions with others will also be taken; these form the basis of the Program plan.
We believe that children learn through active participation in a stimulating and challenging environment, which fosters self-organisation and conflict resolution. Consequently, children need direct experiences and direct manipulation of objects. The learning program at WMPS is structured within the parameters of the Victorian Government prescribed ‘Early Years Learning and Development’ Framework.
As the child experiences more ways of dealing with their world, there needs to be ample opportunity to learn through play. Children need time to explore and manipulate the environment at their own rate and time to be themselves.
Activities and experiences provided for the children are planned to help develop and enhance the child’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities. We place an emphasis on the Process the child uses and goes through while doing the activity, rather than focusing on the final Product. The child needs to be pleased with what they have achieved for themselves, not what an adult has made for them.
Don’t be alarmed if your child does not come home with lots of “work” each day. It doesn’t mean that he/she has done nothing at kinder, rather that he/she has been learning and developing skills at activities which have no visible products to take home.

Dolphin Group - Deferred 4 year old Program
Dolphin Group is a program unique to Waverley Meadows Pre-School and is the perfect transitional program between 3 year old and 4 year old kinder.
This is often the case when children will be turning five between January and April 30th of their first school year. In some cases, even though a child might be age appropriate for school, they may not be socially and emotionally ready and having that extra year of kinder is the time children need to develop a bit more confidence for a smooth transition to school.
Families love this program because it offers greater flexibility when it comes time to make that decision as to whether or not they are ready to start school.
Many of our families in this position begin their child in our Starfish 3 year old group (5 hours per week), continue onto our Dolphin deferred 4 year old group (6.5 hours per week) and enjoy a third year at Waverley Meadows Pre-School in our Seahorse 4 year old group (15 hours per week). This is the ideal situation as children make a steady, structured and developmentally ready progress through their kindergarten years towards primary school.

Seahorse Group - 4 year old Program
The four year old group attends three sessions for a total of 15 hours. A rotational model (attending 3 out of 4 sessions) was introduced to accommodate an increase in enrolments. Our pre-school gives preferences to those children who have attended our 3 year old program and/or have siblings attending the preschool.
